Sketchbook - Iron artist no. 9

Morning! Here's yesterday's Iron Artist image for Don. I'm still working on learning how to color night scenes. I figure the more I try, the more practice I'll get.

I'm not sure what's on the plate for today. I think Matt wants to do something. We'll see. You need to get out of the house now and then. Otherwise you start to go a little crazy and your work suffers. *grin*

Very nice!

What tricks did you use for night coloring? I have one of these coming up and I'm kinda terrified of it.

That is so sweet!
And the coloring is perfect. The subjects are well-lit, but it is also very obvious that it's full night. Beautiful sky colors!

@Chrispy: Thanks. I start out shading the character like normal, then start adding progressively darker blue violet color to the shadows, using the BV23 and BV20 to blend the shadows into the original fur color.

Once I have the shadows how I like, I use a light blue like B00 or B01 to add a bit of blue to the highlighted areas. A bit of purple or light blue color pencil can help too, I just haven't been willing to use those lately since Holly goes nuts whenever the sharpener is running.

No worries. You can do it! :D

@Iron Ed: Thank you. :D They're fun characters to draw. Everyone's characters have been, to be honest.
