It's time to christen a new sketchbook, this time with a composition sketch for Alan's second image. I want a nice, impressive wooded scene for the characters to walk though. The reference image had lots of heavy moss and foliage which made the image beautiful, but rather dark. I thought maybe toning the hanging moss level down would allow a bit more sunlight to illuminate the scene. I mostly wanted a variation of the large, twisted tree trunk that was in the reference photos. I love unusually shaped trees.
The characters are sketched in ballpoint pen because they were getting a little lost in the pencil lines. I'm thinking lots of soft greens and warm browns with subtle yellow highlights would be nice.

This is going to look great, Darc!
I like both of those leaning trees. And the fern at the lower right is a lovely balance for them!
Thanks! :D I've been putting off doing the clean sketch today because my wrist is still bothering me. Hopefully I can get to sketching here in a bit.
